A Statewide Response to the Growing Measles Threat
Measles is back in Texas—and it’s not a minor rash or a youth rite of passage. It’s a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease. In the midst of an alarming outbreak, Texas has already seen two measles-related deaths in children—and the overwhelming majority of measles cases have occurred in those who were unvaccinated.
Texans pride themselves on independence—but we also look out for one another, especially in times of risk. Don’t Wait. Vaccinate, Texas. is a statewide campaign rooted in that value: When our communities are at risk, we step up and protect each other.
Launched by The Immunization Partnership and supported by pediatricians, local health departments and other public health organizations, Don’t Wait. Vaccinate, Texas. reminds people across the state that timely MMR vaccination is the best defense against measles.
WHY THIS MATTERS NOW
- Measles is deadly. The current outbreak in Texas has already taken two lives—and more are at risk.
- Most cases are preventable. The majority of infected children had not been vaccinated.
- The MMR vaccine works. Trusted by pediatricians and public health experts for decades, the MMR vaccine offers strong, proven protection against measles.
- Delays put others at risk. Infants, pregnant people and those with weakened immune systems rely on community protection.
