About
Close to two hundred attendees joined The Immunization Partnership to explore health solutions through collaboration. The two-day summit focused on promoting and protecting the health of our communities and the actions needed to create social, political, and systemic changes. The conference was a blend of panel discussions and individual speakers, all of whom are recognized for their work in improving the health of those around them. Through awareness of the power of intersectionality, all of us can take action to better the health of our communities.
San Antonio, Texas
The Immunization Partnership hosted its inaugural health summit, The Intersection, in beautiful San Antonio. Attendees were welcomed in-person by Jeff Webster, President and CEO of The Greater San Antonio Chamber and a video-welcome from Jamie Wesolowski, President and CEO of Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc, a long-time partner of TIP’s.
Program
The Intersection’s speakers and panelists shared their insights about various topics including addressing health inequities, philanthropy’s role in health outcomes, the intersections of storytelling, wellness, and social impact, health outcomes, how to design effective health messages, and much more!
Attendees networked, met fellow health advocates, learned, and enjoyed what San Antonio had to offer!
Wednesday Night with John Quiñones
The Immunization Partnership hosted an intimate dinner with renowned journalist and host, John Quiñones, the eve before the summit. Guests listened to a thought-provoking and inspirational discussion about how each of us can make a difference.
Keynote Speaker
Daniel E. Dawes J.D.
Daniel Dawes served as our keynote speaker for The Intersection. Mr. Dawes drew on his professional experience as a champion for America’s most underserved and neglected people to lead the summit attendees through what he calls the four stages of health equity awakenings.
The author of the “Political Determinants of Health,” reminded the audience that included in the non-medical determinants of health are housing, water, food deserts, redlining, access to care, climate change and schools. Only by addressing all these things and demonstrating a thoughtful approach to how we structure relationships, distribute resources and administer power will we eliminate the root causes of disparities among vulnerable, underserved and often marginalized populations.
Mr. Dawes is the Senior Vice President, Global Health & Executive Director of the Global Health Equity Institute and Founding Dean of the Future School of Global Public Health at Meharry Medical College; Health Equity & Policy Expert & Best Selling Author.
