Flu activity continues to increase. Time to get that flu shot!

In just a week, the look of this flu season significantly worsened. In fact, it's reached its peak so far in the 2018-19 flu season.

As you can see from the map released today by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, more states are "in the red" -- at the highest level of flu activity. Several other states are also in the high-activity zone, though not as high as the red zones.

In addition, some states that had low flu activity just the prior week have moved to moderate flu activity.

Not only did flu activity increase, but CDC experts noticed a shift from the H1N1 strain that had predominated to the more virulent H3N2 strain that caused so much illness and death during the 2018-18 flu season.

The message is clear: February might be nearly at an end, but that doesn't mean the flu season is. Two weeks ago, people probably thought it was too late in the season to be vaccinated, and then the numbers of flu cases worsened. It wasn't too late then, and it isn't too late now.
